What we do

Strategic Positioning is a small company which exists to help individuals and organisations improve performance. It does this by using coaching, mentoring, facilitation and organisational skills in order to deliver change. The main elements of Strategic Positioning’s work are:

Coaching and Mentoring - individuals and teams within the NHS at Chief Executive and Director level in PCTs, SHAs and Trusts. Strategic Positioning has over 200 clients at all levels of the healthcare system including the Department of Health.

Facilitation - working with Boards and large groups of stakeholders in order to bring focus onto problems and energy into decision making. A wide variety of techniques are used including those developed by Sandra Janoff and Marvin Weisbord: "Don’t just stand there, do something" and Future Search which involve large group work in which the emphasis is getting the group to make the right decision. Strategic Positioning have worked with Ministers and the Departmental Management Board in the Department of Health, with the Secretary of State’s National Stakeholder Forum and large groups of Executives and Clinicians focussing on the reorganisation of acute and mental health services.

Focussed Learning Sets - Strategic Positioning works with a wide variety of individuals and organisations in order to deliver Learning Sets focussed on problems identified by clients including the 10 Strategic Health Authority Chief Executives, NHS, Local Authority and Independent Sector Directors and Chief Executives and on the commissioning process in the NHS. These Learning Sets aim to use the experience of the individuals involved and those they choose to involve as "expert witnesses" in order to resolve the tricky and wicked problems of life in large organisations.

New this year
• International study and comparison: organising intensive Study Tours to look behind the way the health service/market works in other countries, including Scandinavia the USA and Canada. These events are usually short and rich in quality opportunities to meet and discuss the problems and solutions associated with delivering healthcare internationally

• Plan B: Turning a Career Setback into a Success Plan B is an entirely new service to help you when senior careers hit a crisis. It is fast and very professional support when you need it and will be available 24/7 at those critical moments to get you back on track.
"What appeared to me to be a catastrophic failure in my career was played into perspective... I stopped looking backwards and now am in control of a very different and exciting future"

• Career Plan: Making Your Career Work Harder for You Career Plan is an entirely new way to support you as you manage your career. The plan works for you to identify the best opportunity for you arising as a leader in healthcare, both inside and outside the NHS.
"Most importantly, the approach challenged me in a supportive way and helped me to focus on achievable outcomes and widened my horizon and confidence"

"I have developed greater confidence and ability to make more effective contribution to my organisation, create opportunities for my work together with developing greater clarity and focus on my career aspirations"

Through these means Strategic Positioning works to ensure that senior clinical and executive leaders "get ahead of the curve" in order to protect and enhance continuity of services and improve responsiveness to patients.
